The Sacred in Southern Ontario
I've been attached to finding beauty, truth, and spirit in the community of Nelson and in the outdoors of BC. However, I'm very happy to report that I am also finding this sacred trio during my visit to Southern Ontario. I had an absolutely precious connection with my nine-year-old niece when we meditated and did yoga together. Although we only meditated for about five minutes, my niece excitedly reported to her mother that we had meditated for 20 or 25 minutes. I chose not to say differently. What do I know about time; they say it's an illusion and that it's speeding up, so who knows.
Despite the differences in our lifestyles, my brother, sister-in-law and I have found our way to a depth of connection that I am grateful for. I continue to be amazed by what unfolds when I let go of my judgements and invite the heart to play. I can find many differences between BC and Ontario, between the lifestyles of others and the choices I've made. It's in looking with curiosity and kindness for the similarities in what it means to be human that my heart opens to the beauty, truth, and spirit that is always everywhere.
Some questions for connection:
(I recommend that you let go of any expectations and invite people to answer only if they want to.)
What things have you done that you are most proud of?
What would you like to do more of?
What would you do if you had a year to live?
What are the greatest unknowns you have faced in your life?
What are you grateful for?
Who or what has been your greatest teacher?
What did you learn?
What have been your greatest challenges?
What have been your greatest unknowns?
What inspires you? If you followed your
inspiration, where would it lead you?
What fears would you like to let go of?
What would you do if you had 5 years to live?
For what would you trade in all your toys and comforts?
What would you love to learn?
Bob Dylan once wrote as part of a song, "That he not busy being born is busy
dying." Which one are you busy
doing? How do you know?
