about dynamic governance
(also known as sociocracy)
a new system of governance
Dynamic Governance is a new method of governance that creates more inclusive
and efficient organizations. All human beings are created equally and endowed by society with the unquestionable rights of life. In
practice, however, these rights are often limited to the majority, the
rich, or the property owners. Dynamic Governance ensures these rights
to everyone and in the process makes profit-making businesses more
profitable and non-profit organizations more effective. Using consent
and collaboration as a foundation for decision-making and
communications, it builds a strong governance structure that extends
from the mailroom to the boardroom and from the client to the sponsors.
the discoveries of science
Our
understanding of how the world works was fundamentally altered when
cybernetics, systems thinking, and complexity theory replaced the
mechanical model of closed systems. Dynamic Governance applies these
new scientific theories to make our organizations as powerful,
self-organizing, and self-correcting as the natural world.
is it practical?
In the Netherlands ,
where Dynamic Governance was created, Dynamic Governance is replacing
legally required worker councils because it is less adversarial and
provides better protection for workers' rights. In professional
organizations, like the United States Green Building Council, it provides egalitarian as well as efficient governance. The
European divisions of Heineken, Mars, and Pfizer use Dynamic Governance
because it is simply more productive.
redefining ownership
Dynamic Governance is not a model for worker ownership or communal ownership;
rather, it reframes the whole concept of ownership and eliminates the
master-servant relationship. In doing so, it better meets investors'
needs for trust in strong management and for secure long-term
investments. It better meets the needs of executives and managers for
cooperation, loyalty, and trust by their staff. It better meets the
needs of staff for respect and true inclusion, for enfranchisement in
the organization.
the centre for nonviolent communication
CNVC is
implementing the principals of Dynamic Governance for its own governance
structure. Workshops on Nonviolent Communication and Sociocracy have
been held together as the organizations see the benefit in pairing
these complimentary disciplines. www.cnvc.org
"I have looked into many possible models for self-governing organizations but have found nothing that so mobilized the commitment and creativity of people. Sociocracy tops all others." - Dr. A.J. Joldersma, Economic Director of Kramp Minded, The Netherlands
"It's phenomenal how it accesses and makes available all the intelligence in the group." - Connie Lindholm, Executive Director, Wisconsin Green Building Alliance
